Labor groups led the fight against Prop 32.

The measure would have banned the way unions traditionally raise money to fund political activity, through automatic paycheck deductions.

Corporations don't typically deduct money from paychecks for political activity. Dean Vogel is with the California Teachers Association.

Vogel: "We sent a message from the left coast all the way across the country that said basically this…you can't buy California we're not for sale."

Businesses and wealthy Republicans funded the "Yes on 32" campaign.
But an extraordinary amount of money was spent on both sides… totaling more than $120-million.
