Measure M was put on the ballot as an alternative to Mayor Johnson's proposal for voters to decide if he should be more of an executive and less of a council member. Steve Maviglio is a spokesman for Mayor Johnson, "The voters saw it for exactly what it was -a political play. And, now we can resume getting back to moving Sacramento forward and focusing on jobs and things that matter rather than political games."
So, now that the charter commission has been voted down by a nearly three-to-one vote, is the Mayor ready to take another run at the strong mayor idea? Maviglio is non-committal, "I don't think he's ready to do anything yet. He wants to meet with the council and see where their head is at and then he'll decide."
