The auto club AAA says the average price for a gallon of gas statewide is $3.85. That's down 82-cents from a month ago. AAA's Cynthia Harris says the drop is even steeper in the Capital City: 

"Sacramento today is registering $3.68 and this is .85 less than it was a month ago. So that is quite a drop for the Sacramento area that usually registers medium to high gas prices."

Harris says the least expensive gas in Northern California can be found in Modesto…where the average price is $3.65 per gallon.

She says prices are falling because of lower crude oil prices; the seasonal switch from summer to winter blend; and reduced demand.
