Early snow and consistent low temperatures are good news for area skiers and the businesses that serve them.

CHAPLIN: "It's looking actually really positive for an early ski season."

Carol Chaplin is Executive Director of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority. She says ski resorts opened about a week early, and lodging bookings are up 5-10% from what they were at this time last year.

CHAPLIN: "During the holiday period that's - will show us exactly how we're set up for next year. We know that there's people that are traveling longer distances to get here and so they are starting to book, and those particular reservations are looking really really strong."

Chaplin says last year's low snowfall weakened the overall ski season.  This year, ski resorts are offering ski pass discounts, special promotions and live music.
