About a dozen counties throughout California operate "Family Justice Centers" or FJCs for victims of child abuse, domestic violence and elder abuse…but Sacramento County isn't one of them. District Attorney Jan Scully wants to change that.

"It provides a system of support that they would not otherwise have."

Scully says the FJC concept brings various agencies together under one roof. A victim would be able to report a crime and then learn how to get a temporary restraining order, find safe housing and get job training.

"So a Family Justice Center really focuses not as much on the investigation, arrest or prosecution but really the needs of the victim and family."

Ultimately she says it's about keeping victims from falling back into the hands of their abusers. Scully says nearly 3,000 domestic violence cases were filed and prosecuted in Sacramento County this past year.

The workshop is being held at the Liberty Towers Church on Elkhorn Boulevard in the Foothill Farms area - on Monday: from 8:30 AM to 4 PM...and on Tuesday: from 8:30 AM to 3 PM.
