Valley Electric Association of Pahrump, Nevada has the capacity to power 750-thousand homes according to Steven Greenlee with the California Independent System Operator. He says some of that power comes from alternative energy sources, "This is an excellent connection between our two states so that we both can develop renewables and green our grid."
Valley Electric Association has programs encouraging solar water heaters and wind turbine power generation. The association supplies power to southwestern Nevada and also to Mono and Inyo Counties in California.
Greenlee says Cal-ISO has no future plans to contract with other neighboring transmission owners, but would consider it if the opportunity arose.
