Ski resorts throughout the Tahoe region are reporting robust attendance over the holidays.
"Good snow really equates to good business - it's an historical fact of life in our industry."
That's the President of the California Ski Industry
Association - Bob Roberts.
Among the resorts seeing big crowds is Boreal, which is about
an hour-and-a-half drive from Sacramento off of Interstate 80. Jon
Slaughter is with Boreal.
"Over the Christmas holiday season generally we see about
30% of our total annual skiers. So far this year we're up to about
35%."
B. Gorman heads the Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of
Commerce. She says both small and large resort operators report
bookings are up significantly through March.
"We're seeing these advanced bookings speak to a
stabilization of the economy in addition to the great snow that
we've received this year."
Gorman says average daily room rates are up this winter…giving
lodge operators a chance to make up for lost revenue from last
year's poor ski season.
