As the City of Sacramento tries to find a new owner for the Sacramento Kings, developers have again started looking at possible sites for a new arena.
Sacramento developer David Taylor says the Railyards arena plan approved last year by the NBA and the Sacramento City Council is still viable, "As long as the city will offer the deal that they offered last time, we know we can get the arena side done, if we can make sure the team stays."
But he says an arena at the Downtown Plaza might also make sense, "The physical difficulty is you're putting it in a place where you do have to demolish and make sure you leave enough ground-level activity and retail so that it doesn't become a barrier to future activity… that it becomes a spawner of activity."
Taylor says Mayor Kevin Johnson has been putting him in touch with people interested in the Kings and an arena deal, "I am talking to several groups and I can't tell you right now where all of this is going ot land as far as my own role goes. I just want to make sure I can play a role that's helpful to getting the team to stay or the arena built or both.
