It's no secret the City of Stockton has money problems.

Police Chief Eric Jones is hoping a new Stockton Police
Foundation will be able to raise enough money to help the
department buys the tools the city can't afford.
JONES: "We have significant technological needs, with
our lower staffing we need to play smarter than ever before, and we
have some software and hardware needs to be able to have the most
up to date crime analysis abilities."
A citizen board, not police, would raise funds and donations
would be tax deductible.
Jones says the money could also be used to hire part time
officers to take prisoners to jail.
JONES: "What that will do is shave off about an hour
of an officer's time which means you are getting the officer back
on the streets faster."
Jones says he expects the foundation will have its
fund-raising website up and running within about a week.
