Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson says the City has identified a favorite among the list of prospective major equity partners who want to buy the Sacramento Kings.   But, he won't say who the favorite or favorites are.

The mayor says there is still a lot of work to be done before he'll make an announcement, "At the end of the day, you have to keep your options open and I think we have a clear path to where we want to be.  But, we couldn't turn everyone down yet.  You always need a contingency plan.  You need a plan B and everybody's part of the equation still up until this point."

Billionaire Ron Burkle has met with National Basketball Association President David Stern.  Multi-millionaire and 24-Hour Fitness founder Mark Mastrov met with prospective minority owners in Sacramento on Monday.  Mastrov told the prospective owners he and Burkle have joined forces.

Minority owner Bob Cook told multiple media outlets last week that he had asked for a meeting to be set up between Oracle founder Larry Ellison and Mayor Johnson.  The Mayor says he has not met with Ellison.

Mayor Johnson has received permission to speak before the NBA Board of Governors.  The Board meets April 18 and 19.
