The New Harmony Mutual Housing Community includes 69 apartments, a playground, a garden, and artwork by local sculptors and painters.  It also has some extras.  Rachel Iskow is with Mutual Housing California, the non-profit organization that developed the community:

Iskow: "It's solar-powered and it has high-efficiency appliances, so it's a community where low-wage families will be able to contribute to reducing the carbon footprint in Davis."

Iskow says to qualify to live in New Harmony, a family of four must make less than about 40-thousand dollars a year.  Half of the families moved in about two weeks ago.  The rest should be in place early next month. The project cost 19 million dollars - and is one of the last funded in part by state redevelopment funds.
