Voters favor gun control over gun rights by a 61 to 34-percent margin.

That's the widest margin the Field Poll has observed dating as far back as 1999.

Eighty-three percent of voters support increased funding to confiscate guns from convicted felons.

Large majorities of voters also back other proposals that the state legislature is considering.

They include requiring permits and a background check to purchase ammunition, and outlawing possession of large-capacity ammunition magazines.

In virtually all cases, more women than men support the proposals. Supporters of the proposals also follow party lines.

Eighty-percent of Democrats favor increased gun control, while 65-percent of Republicans thought it more important to protect the rights of gun owners.
