Last week's announcement of a bid to keep the Sacramento Kings from leaving town came weeks after a Seattle group's bid to buy the team.
But, long-time Seattle sports columnist Art Thiel (TEEL) says Sacramento isn't that far behind when it comes to developing an arena plan because of the opposition in his city to an arena.
21 "The opponents believe that putting a third sports and entertainment venue in that district is going to imperil trade mobility out of the port. And they put up a very strong argument against this and that's what's going to be the turning point in the environmental impact statement."
The Longshoreman's union in Seattle announced Monday it would continue a court fight against the current arena proposal, even though it has already lost in court once.
Thiel (TEEL) appeared on Capital Public Radio's "Insight." He says the city of Sacramento might have the upper hand with the National Basketball Association Board of Governors. It's well known the NBA typically doesn't like to move teams it doesn't have to.
