Tom Pace is the City's Long Range Planning Manager. He says the 2009 change in Sacramento's master plan necessitated a change of zoning laws that would allow more in-fill projects, "The areas where we're focusing on these changes are primarily around light rail stations, former redevelopment areas and along major commercial corridors. So, we're not making big changes to the quiet residential neighborhood parts of our city."
Pace says the Planning Department wants to make it easier to re-use historic buildings, create multi-use developments and build taller buildings.
The Planning Department is also proposing all new developments go through one review process -instead of the four that currently exist.
The proposed changes must go through a City Council committee before they go to a full vote -expected sometime this spring.
