The unemployment rate in the four-county Sacramento area was 9.2% in March. It hasn't been that low in more than four-years.
"December of 2008 it was at 8.7% and that's the last time it was this low…so that's a good sign."
Heather Chamizo is with the state Employment Development
Department which released the data.
March's jobless rate of 9.2% is down from 9.5% in February…and
it's a 2% drop from March of 2012. Chamizo says two sectors gained
the most jobs last month.
"Most of it was in local government education where they
gained 1,300 jobs over the month and leisure and hospitality which
is picking up for spring and summer and they added 1,000
jobs."
Chamizo says year-over-year the region gained 13,800 jobs, the
largest March-to-March gain since 2006.
