One GOP measure would have allowed employees to work flexible schedules - such as four 10-hour days each week.

Another would have allowed school districts to make teacher layoff and retention decisions based on factors other than tenure.

And a third Republican bill that would make changes to the teacher dismissal process involving cases of abuse didn't have enough votes to pass Wednesday.  It'll be back next week after amendments but still faces an uphill path.
