As she does every year, Flo Horton wandered through Cesar Chavez Park, "I'm happy that the market's open.  Yeah, it's the first day.  This day is going great"

She found the organic spinach she'd been waiting for since last fall.  The lady behind the counter made her pitch, "No any fertilizers. No any sprays."  Flo reached for her wallet, "I'm happy about that.  Good! good!"

She moved on to a booth where asparagus was waiting.  Anthony Koya was behind the counter.  He says business was good, but down a little from last year "They did some construction in the park that actually took up about eight spaces.  So, it's a little empty compared to last year. But, we're staying pretty steady."

About 20 yards away Susan Barnhart had to tell customers there was no more caramel left at the Kettle Corn tent, "It's a big day. The first market is a really big market.  The people come out.  All of the office workers are excited it's open again. "

Garrett Owens and his wife Nikki were also excited.  They had just discovered the DavePops's non-dairy ice cream, "It really is creamy," he said.  "He's lactose intolerant so this great.  Ha ha," chimed in Nikki.  It's creamy.  That that is good.  Tastes like yogurt."

The market at Cesar Chavez Park and other downtown parks typically open the first week in May and close at the end of October.
