A little more than 580,000 square feet of the almond plant now has energy-efficient LED lighting equipped with motion detectors.
An upgraded cold storage system allows managers to shut down refrigeration and coast through periods of high electrical demand.
The projects are expected to save Blue Diamond more than a million dollars over five years.
SMUD's incentive program helped pay for nearly half of the 960,000 dollar project.
