In downtown Reno Kayakers splash and flip in the Truckee like birds in a bath.
"Yes, freestyle kayaking."
Pro Kayaker Jessica Yurtinus competed in the Reno River
Festival this weekend. She knows the river flows are about half of
normal.
All of the rivers in California, here in Nevada just
aren't as big as they usually are so we are getting our run off a
little bit sooner than we usually do. It means we will be done
kayaking early this year instead of going all the way through
August and September."
The last time the river hit a peak this low was in 1992 when
the Truckee River went dry through downtown Reno.
The Federal Water Master in Reno says the river will be low
but its not likely to be dry because rule changes allow the release
of water from Stampede Reservoir in an emergency.
