NBA Owners Say No To Relocation Bid But Kings Story Is Not Over

Commissioner David Stern says he hopes the current Kings owners, the Maloof family, will sell the team to a Sacramento group that's promised to build a new downtown arena.

"We will talk to the Maloofs and seek in the next 24 to 48 hours whether we can help facilitate an agreement to be signed," said Stern during a press conference following the Board of Governors meeting in Dallas.

Lead Sacramento investor Vivek Ranadive says his group is ready to talk.  But George Maloof left the door open to his family staying in charge.

"The mayor did a great job, put a great team together," Maloof told reporters in the hotel lobby. "And so we'll see what happens.  It's not over.  We'll just see what happens."

Lead Seattle investor Chris Hansen said in a statement that while he's disappointed in the vote, he still hopes to become a limited partner with the Maloofs.  But that idea doesn't appear to have support from Sacramento or the NBA.
