The unemployment rate was 8.3% in April, down nearly a full-percent from March and down from 10.3% in April of 2012.
State analysts say Sacramento's jobless rate hasn't been in this territory since about four-and-a-half-years ago.
"The last time it was below 9% was December of 2008 where it was 8.1%."
Heather Chamizo is with the state Employment Development
Department which released the data.
Chamizo says the region gained 3,100 jobs in April. Most of
that was in "trade, transportation and utilities."
"…and 'other services' also expanded by 1,000 jobs over
the month and that's the largest April to May gain since
2002."
Chamizo explains "other services" include: repair and
maintenance, laundry jobs and hair and salon workers.
Sectors that lost jobs last month include: "leisure and
hospitality" and "financial activities."
