Sheriff's Sergeant Jason Ramos says the girl and her parents had no gang ties. He says both of the girl's parents were wounded by bullets fired by at least two shooters.
"Based on the home, the way things were configured that night, we are absolutely certain that the shooters had to have known that they were shooting into a room where a child was," Ramos said.
Investigators say it was possibly the final shooting in a full day of gang violence in the area.
Two gang-related shootings were reported earlier in the day close to the home on Channing Drive.
