The U.S. Geological Survey reports the quake hit at 8:47 p.m near Canyondam, Calif., 11 km north of Greenville.  The town is just south of Lake Almanor and due east of Red Bluff.

At least 24 aftershocks had followed by 11:30pm, with the largest measuring 3.6.

The Redding, Calif. Record Searchlight newspaper reports some damage and a rock slide blocking part of a highway.
