Schools/Railyard Update/Trubaek Quartet/StoryCorps

Lowest-Achieving Schools Nearly 200 California schools are officially flagged "persistently lowest-achieving." Three are in Sacramento County and about a dozen others are in adjacent counties. What does it mean to be "persistently lowest-achieving"? What options do the schools have? And what will happen if they don't improve?

Railyards Update The developer of downtown Sacramento's old railyards has faced several recent challenges - unpaid property taxes on the railyard site; ongoing arbitration with the City of Sacramento over the disputed value of some railyard land; and filing for bankruptcy protection on three of its large projects in other cities. What's going on? Capital Public Radio's Ben Adler spoke with Suheil Totah, the Sacramento-based Vice President of railyard developer Thomas Enterprises.

Trubaek Quartet A young, local classical music group is giving a benefit concert for Haiti this weekend. It's the Trubaek Quartet which includes the violinist who won this year's Sacramento Classical Jammies award for young musicians. You'll meet the members of the quartet and hear them perform in our studio.

StoryCorps Book Storycorps, the oral history project that provides memorable pieces every Friday on Morning Edition, has a new book coming out. It's called "Mom" and it features - of course - stories about mothers. A Sacramento woman is one of the people who tell a story in the book. You'll meet her and hear from David Isay, the founder and president of StoryCorps.
