Stuart Milk/ Tahoe Diver/ In the Flow/ Byron Blackburn

Stuart Milk Harvey Milk was a pioneering gay San Francisco politician when he was gunned down by a homophobic fellow politician in 1978. In the years since, he has become a symbol of gay pride and the subject of an Oscar-winning movie. Last year, Gov. Schwarzenegger signed a bill to create Harvey Milk Day - the first celebration takes place May 22nd. Tonight, the California Museum in downtown Sacramento will host the launch of the Harvey Milk Foundation. Today on Insight, you'll meet Stuart Milk, Harvey's nephew, and hear about his life and why he's being honored with his own day.

A public celebration for the first "Harvey Milk Day" and the Harvey B. Milk Foundation Launch is from 7 to 10 p.m. today at The California Museum, 1020 O St., Sacramento. Equality Action Now is hosting a variety of events beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 19th at the Crest Theater with a panel discussion and screening of "Milk." There will also be a march and rally from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 22nd at the California State Capitol Building.

Tahoe Diver Solutions and strategies for dealing with invasive species that are growing in Lake Tahoe is the topic of a discussion this week at the Squaw Valley Institue. You'll meet a local diver who's been working on the issue.

In the Flow A local improvisational music festival kicks off this weekend in Sacramento. You'll meet poet NSAA (aka Lawrence Dinkins) and musician Ross Hammond who kick off the In the Flow festival Friday night with a special evening of poetry and music.

The third annual In the Flow festival opens in Sacramento Friday, May 14th and runs through Monday, May 17th at Beatnik Studios, 2421 17th St. and Luna's Cafe, 1414 16th St.

Byron Blackburn We remember jazz musician Byron Blackburn, who passed away in September 2009 after battling cancer. The final day of the In the Flow festival will be dedicated to Blackburn. We spoke with him on Insight on June 26th about his album, "Things Turn Black When They Burn," and about producing the In the Flow jazz festival in June. This segment originally aired June 26th, 2009.
