Woodbridge/Pregnant Cow/Heartbeat/New Christy Minstrels

Woodbridge Wilderness A so-called "wilderness area" near Lodi is troubling locals and officials. Critics say the Woodbridge Wilderness Area is just an unmaintained park and a hazard. San Joaquin County, which owns the property, is trying to figure out what to do. Recently, a crew from the California Conservation Corps went in to clear brush because Woodbridge is a fire hazard near dozens of homes. Today on Insight, we'll talk about it.

Pregnant Cow A few days ago, I talked with the fair's director, Norb Bartosik, about several issues, including the shooting, and a reported rift between the fair and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. In protest against the cow incident, the Sacramento SPCA had given a check it received from the fair to the Humane Society of the United States. We'll talk with Jennifer Fearing, head of the California Humane Society, about her perspective and what they'll do with the money from the SPCA.

Song from a Heartbeat A local jazz guitarist has a new single with an unusual "sideman" - the heartbeat of his then-unborn daughter. Ross Hammond and his wife Alecia Sanchez - now parents - join us to talk about it.

New Christy Minstrels The 1960s folk group the New Christy Minstrels comes to town for a concert this weekend. Never as edgy as, say Bob Dylan and Joan Baez, their hits included "Green Green" and "Today." One of the Minstrels' biggest accomplishments was helping start the careers of dozens of musicians, including Kenny Rogers, John Denver, Barry McGuire, Gene Clark of The Byrds and Kim Carnes. Some current members of the band stopped by our studio recently and played a couple of songs.
