Insight: Treating Opiate Addiction / Orange Grove School Update / Artsong / Gems Gems


Treating Opiate Addiction Abuse of prescription opiates such as Vicodin and Oxycontin is rising, especially among young people. A treatment program in downtown Sacramento has seen its clientele change dramatically and they've recently added acupuncture. Today on Insight, we'll talk about it with CORE Medical Center Clinical Director Garrett Stenson and acupuncturist and executive director of of Community Addiction Recovery Association Carolyn Ruben.

Orange Grove School Update We get an update on the Orange Grove School for disabled adults, which was slated to be closed next year due to budget cuts. We recently talked with a parent and representative of the school district about it. The San Juan School District school board voted on a plan Tuesday that would give the school a reprieve for one year. We'll find out what's happening from parent and PTA President Bertha Mitchel and San Juan Unified's Director of Communications Trent Allen.

ArtSong The Sacramento Fine Arts Center is bringing soprano Donna Helmich-Agnello and violinist Michelle Xiao You to the area this weekend for two concerts that celebrate music and art. We'll talk about it with Donna Helmich-Agnello and Sacramento Fine Arts Center President Richard Turner.

GEMS GEMS Guitar Expressions Music Series, kicked off with a bang at Antiquité Maison Privée in November and in 2011, will continue this month with a concert Friday, Jan. 28th. GEMS, an exciting new series of four concerts, presents many different musical voices, and will include Derek Keller performing his aural, dramatic, historical and musical journey, California Tableaux, along with drummer Jonathan Raman, and specials guests from the Sacramento Baroque Soloists, Citywater, the Sacramento Opera, and CSUS faculty.
