Insight: Final Day of Brown's Countdown / Unsafe Ground / Kim Harrison / Sound Advice: Mick Martin

Final Day of Brown's Countdown Governor Jerry Brown promised to secure a deal to close California's multi-billion dollar budget gap within 60 days. Those 60 days are up. Today on Insight, we'll talk with the Sacramento Bee's Dan Walters about what's happened.

Unsafe Ground Bob Slobe's recent essay published in the Sacramento News & Review talked about the degradation of Woodlake Reach of the American River Parkway located in North Sacramento. He's critical of homeless advocates who support a legal place to camp, and believes they have succeeded in turning Woodlake Reach into a haven for camping, crimes and drugs. Slobe's family donated 10 percent of the land used for the American River Parkway, including Woodlake Reach.

Kim Harrison Can a witch, an elf, a living vampire and a pixy survive in one car for more than 2,300 miles? That's the premise of a new urban fantasty from author Kim Harrison. Harrison is in Sacramento for a book reading and signing. You'll meet her and hear about "Pale Demon."

Kim Harrison will appear at the Sacramento Bee Book Club at 6 p.m. today at Borders, 2339 Fair Oaks Blvd., Sacramento. Information: (916) 564-0168.

Sound Advice: Mick Martin The host of Capital Public Radio's Mick Martin's Blues Party recently celebrated 20 years of spinning music for his Saturday afternoon show. He'll join us for this week's Sound Advice and we'll hear a sampling of songs he's played during the first 20 years of Mick Martin's Blues Party.
