Insight: Tsunami Update / School Cuts / Depression in Female Mice

Tsunami Update An 8.9 magnitude earthquake shook Japan last night and sent a tsunami across the pacific, with a tsunami watch issued for the coast of California this morning. We'll talk with Richard Wiens, Editor of the Crescent City Triplicate; former Insight associate producer Robyn Souza in Half Moon Bay; and Sacramento sushi chef Taro Arai, who is originally from Japan.

School Cuts School districts across California are preparing to make massive cuts yet again, including doing away with school sports and extracurricular activities, as the state struggles to close a huge budget gap. Today on Insight, we'll talk about it with Jonathan Raymond, Sacramento City Schools Superintendent; Bobbie Plough, Natomas Unified School District Superintendent; and Wylie Broshar II, President of the Sacramento Council of PTAs.

Depression in Female Mice For the first time, UC Davis researchers have been able to produce a "social withdrawal" syndrome in female rodents. The development could yield new insights into the physical basis of human mood disorders. We'll talk about it with Brian Trainor, Assistant Professor of Psychology at UC Davis.
