Insight: Radiation Health Concerns / Earthquakes and Tsunamis / Ballot Questions / Master Class


Radiation Health Concerns  We'll speak with Jerrold Bushberg, the director of health physics programs and clinical professor of radiology and radiation oncology at UC Davis. He is an expert on the biological effects of radiation exposure and safety measures, and has investigated numerous radiation overexposure incidents.

Earthquake and Tsunamis  We follow up on last week's discussion about the earthquake and the tsunami that hit Japan. What do we know about warning systems and preparedness in our region, should a similar natural disaster happen here? We'll talk to Lori Dengler of Humboldt University, an expert on tsunamis, and Geoffrey Blewitt of the University of Nevada Reno who specializes in early warning systems. 

Ballot Question When is the latest you can put a measure on the ballot? It's a big question in Sacramento right now as the governor and lawmakers discuss whether to put a tax measure on the ballot in June. We'll talk about it with Nicole Winger, Deputy Secretary of State of California; Freddie Oakley, Clerk-Recorder of Yolo County; and Kim Alexander, President of the California Voter Foundation.

"Master Class" "Master Class" is the story of glamorous, larger-than-life opera diva Maria Callas teaching a master class to three aspiring voice students. Along the way, she offers an intimate look into her own tumultuous life. Acclaimed actress Janis Stevens takes on the role of Callas in the Capital Stage production that opens this week. You'll meet her and director Jonathan Williams.
