Insight: States Budget updates /ARC Jazz Band /Sound Advice: Classical

What's happening with the state budget? The lingering economic challenges are causing big problems in the two states of California and Nevada. We are going to hear a fiscal update from both sides of the Sierra Nevada. Also, a local student jazz band takes on an ambitious assigment. And, Capital Public Radio classical morning host Kent Teeters will have unfamiliar music selections by Mendelssohn, songs based on Gary Snyder's translations of Chinese poems, and symphonies by Brahms.

States Budget Updates The State Capitols of California and Nevada are both grappling with the realities of having to balance a dwindling budget. We'll get an update from Sacramento and Carson City with, respectively, Capital Public Radio Capitol Bureau Chief Marianne Russ and KUNR News Director Brandon Rittiman.

ARC Jazz Band ARC's studio jazz bands, which include ARC's Studio Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Collective, Community Jazz Ensemble and Latin Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dyne Eifertsen, will perform rarely heard arrangements by trumpeter Miles Davis and writer/arranger Gil Evans. They're having the concert to commemorate Davis and Evans. They will perform live in our studio a stripped down verson of the song " Boplicity".
