Insight: Fire Cuts / Noreen Evans / Syrian Crisis / Sound Advice

Fire Cuts The Sacramento Fire Department isn't immune from budget cuts.  They've had to place two more fire engines on rotating brownouts and cut some positions.  Lack of funds means the department may have to end water patrols during one of the Sacramento Area's most dangerous water seasons in years.  There's also an ongoing push for public employee unions to reform their pension systems so members contribute more. We'll talk with Deputy Fire Chief Lloyd Ogan.

Senator Noreen Evans Some lawmakers think the State Controller exceeded his authority when he cut lawmakers' pay over the budget.  Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee Noreen Evans thinks his decision violates the separation of powers and sets a "dangerous" legal precedent. We'll talk with the democratic state senator.

Crisis in Syria Syrian security forces are cracking down on protestors and pro-democracy supporters.  The United States has imposed some sanctions on the Middle East country and refugees are flooding into Turkey.  We'll talk with UC Davis Professor Keith Watenpaugh about the latest in the ongoing situation in Syria.

Sound Advice Friday Night at the Opera host Sean Bianco joins us for our weekly music segment. He'll introduce us to some new operatic pieces.
