Insight: Sac City Redistricting / Science of Origami / Dinners with Augie / Alex Jenkins

Sac City Redistricting The Sacramento City Council was expected to vote on the four redistricting plans presented to them by a citizen's committee at the City Council meeting last night, but they put it off to allow for more study of the proposals. Two of the proposals would combine districts, essentially kicking an encumbant out of office. Today on Insight, we'll talk with the Sacramento Bee's Ryan Lillis about the four plans and what's expected to happen next. We'll also get an update on the new Greyhound Bus Terminal.

Science of Origami Robert Lang, an origami artist and a Fellow of the Optical Society of America, will give this year's MathFest talk at UC Davis on "From Flapping Birds to Space Telescopes: The Modern Science of Origami." Lang will discuss how mathematical techniques have been applied to the ancient Japanese art of paper folding, enabling the folding of shapes of stunning complexity and realism. We'll talk about it with Lang, who is recognized as one of the foremost origami artists in the world.

Robert Lang presents "From Flapping Birds to Space Telescopes: The Modern Science of Origami" from 1 to 2 p.m. today in the Ballroom at the Activities & Recreation Center at UC Davis.

"Dinners with Augie" Amateur playwright Charles Scott decided to produce his own play after it received a workshop reading at Sacramento's "Playwrights Collaborative."  We'll speak with him about the struggles of producing your own play, including finding a theater and assembling a cast and crew. We'll also hear a scene from "Dinners with Augie" with actors Cameron Johnson and Jeff Webster.

"Dinners With Augie" begins a four-weekend run this Friday at Sacramento's Geery Theater, 2130 L St., Sacramento. Information: (916) 448-9019.
