Insight: Sacramento Regional Parks District / FAIR Education Act / Letters / Jeff Hudson / Lawrence Dinkins AKA NSAA

Sacramento Regional Parks District The Save the American River Association is trying to convince the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors to place a one-tenth of 1 percent sales tax on the 2012 ballot to establish an independent Sacramento Regional Parks District. Sacramento County has cut the parks and recreation budget by nearly half in the last decade, and the Board of Supervisors will be considering more cuts this Tuesday night.  Volunteer Leader of the Grassroots Working Group for the Save the American River Association Sean Donahoe joins us to discuss the future of parks in Sacramento and the possibility of creating a Sacramento Regional Parks District to oversee the county's 32 parks.

FAIR Education Act Governor Jerry Brown signed what some people consider an historical piece of legislation late last week.  The FAIR Education Act (Senate Bill 48) requires California public education curriculum to include lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender figures of historical importance.  We'll speak with UC Davis Education Expert Steven Athanases about the impact of this new law on California curriculum.  We'll also discuss the possibilities of legal challenges with UC Davis Law Professor Courtney Joslin.

Letters We hear what our listeners have to say about topics and guests recently covered.

Jeff Hudson Capital Public Radio's Arts Reporter Jeff Hudson has just returned from South Lake Tahoe's Shakespeare Festival.  He talks with Jeffrey Callison about some Tahoe casinos' evolution from gaming to a more family-oriented business model that focuses on the surrounding nature.  And, of course, he disucsses some of the better productions at this year's Shakespeare Festival.

Lawrence Dinkins Sacramento poet and author Lawrence Dinkins (aka NSAA) will be reading some of his poetry at a Brown Bag Poetry Event at the Central Library this Thursday.  Dinkins released his first book of peotry in February.
