Insight: School Tests Explainer / Depression & Food / Todd Borg / Steve Goodall / Sound Advice

School Tests Explainer What are all these test results that come out in August (STAR, CAHSEE, API, etc)? We'll get an explanation from Sacramento Bee database reporter Phillip Reese, who recently co-authored a story about Sacramento area's rise in STAR test proficiency.

Depression and Food A new study from the World Health Organization shows the prevalence of depression in high income countries. We talk to local writer, Trudy Scott, and Sontine Kalba, the Executive Director of "NAMI Sacramento" -the Sacramento affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness-about how healthy eating can help fight this problem.

Steve Goodall This year's Nevada City Film Festival opens with the film "Someplace with a Mountain."  Narrated by Chevy Chase, this documentary focuses on the plight of the people of a South Pacific island under siege from global rising sea levels.  The film has gone onto receive critical acclaim and show on PBS.   We'll speak with director Steve Goodall, who lived in the Tahoe Area until 2004.

Todd Borg Todd Borg continues his Owen McKenna Mystery Thriller series with "Tahoe Hijack." We speak to Borg about his latest book and book tour.  He'll be at Red Hut in South Lake Tahoe this Saturday and at Epilog Books in Quincy on August 25th.

Sound Advice: Jazz It's time for this week's edition of "Sound Advice," our weekly music feature. This week, evening jazz host Gary Vercelli joins us.
