Methyl Iodide Farm workers and environmental groups are
suing the California Department of Pesticide Regulation for using a
pesticide called methyl iodide. Typically used for
strawberry cultivation in Southern and Central California,
environmental groups are claiming methyl iodide causes cancer and
miscarriages in farm workers. We'll speak with President of
the United Farm
Workers Union, Arturo Rodriguez, as he and a small band of
union faithfuls march the 165 miles from Madera to Sacramento
to protest the state's use of the pesticide. We'll also speak
with UC Riverside pathologist and chemist, Jim Sims, who is one of the authors of the
patent for methyl iodide.

Dancing With Pain After a head-on car
collision Loolwa Khazzoom discovered that dancing helped
her to heal. Now she's designed a class called Dancing with
Pain. We'll speak with her about her natural approach to
rehabilitation and the launch of her Dancing with Pain class
series in Sacramento, which will be held regularly beginning
September 11th.
Audie Cornish NPR News has named Audie Cornish the new host of Weekend Edition Sunday. Cornish, a
reporter and substitute host for NPR since 2006, will be the new
voice of Sunday mornings for millions of public radio listeners
beginning this fall. Liane Hansen, who has been hosting Weekend
Edition for more than 20 years, announced her retirement last
year and will broadcasted her final show earlier this
summer.
