Lawmaker Reaction to Budget Deficit
California lawmakers are reacting differently to Governor Jerry
Brown's announcement that the state's budget deficit for 2012-2013
has grown from $9 billion to $16 billion. Many Democratic
lawmakers are urging the state to close tax loopholes and levy new taxes to
offset the unavoidable cuts while many Republicans are
saying the state needs to stop
overspending, not impose new taxes. We'll speak with
Senate Budget Chair, Mark Leno D-San Francisco, and Senate Budget
Vice Chair, Bill
Emmerson R-Riverside, about their differing views on the causes
and solutions for the soaring deficit.
