Capitol Chat In our regular weekly
segment, we hear what's been happening at the California's State
Capitol this week with Capitol Bureau Chief Ben Adler,
including his brief exchange with Governor Jerry Brown and an
excerpt from one of the marketplace interviews. We'll also

SummerWords Conference American River
College's creative writing department hosts its annual
colloquium this weekend. We'll talk with students and
professors about the process of writing and how such a
forum can help. The SummerWordsCreative Writing Colloquium
will take place May 31 - June 3, 2012.
Poet Laureate Philip Levine On August
of last year, the Library of Congress announced that Philip Levine, best known for his big-hearted,
Whitmanesque poems about working-class Detroit, is the next Poet
Laureate of the United States, succeeding W.W. Merwin. Philip
Levine and his so-called "very, very, American voice" is the
American River College's keynote speaker for SummerWords.
He'll be joining Insight for an interview on his poetry and
his life.

releases from contemporary rock groups, local bands, and artists
heard on NPR.
