Capitol Chat It's a mad dash at the State
Capitol this week as California legislators rush to push bills
through their house of origin before the deadline Friday.
Capital Public Radio's Capitol Bureau Chief Ben Adler has been
following the flurry of bills and joins us with a summary of the
most interesting new legislation in this week's Capitol Chat.
Lama Marut As a surfer, motorcycle
enthusiast, ordained Buddhist monk, and university professor, Lama Marut is accessible to a broad audience,
spiritual and irreverent alike. His unique background and
easy, down-to-earth style have attracted thousands of followers of
all ages and walks of life around the world who gather to hear
his call for a revolution of true and lasting happiness. Lama
Marut is coming to Sacramento from June 1-3 as part of his US tour
discussing his new book, A Spiritual Renegade's Guide to the Good
Life. Lama Marut will be speaking
tonight from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Lake Tahoe Community College as
part of the Lake Tahoe Community College Writers'
Series.
Into the Earth Daniel D'Agostini has
announced his first show after many years: "Looking back on thirty
years plus new work." It opens May 31 through June
24 with a reception on June 2, from 4-7 pm, at the Hanford
Street Gallery in Sutter Creek. Into the Earth: A wine Cave
Renaissance is also the title of his
beautifully illustrated new book.
Sound Advice: International Hip Hop Dimitri Bogazianos is Assistant professor in
the Division of Criminal Justice at Sacramento State University and
the author of "5 Grams: Crack Cocaine, Rap Music, and the War on
Drugs." Dimitri is from New York and came
up in the crack era. He focuses on NY East coast rap.
