Arts in Sacramento The landscape of
Sacramento's arts scene has changed in the past decade with a
recession and two large-scale venues (Mondavi and Three Stages)
that attract big name national acts and offer people in the suburbs
a shorter commute. The Sacramento Ballet, the Sacramento
Philharmonic, and the Sacramento Opera are the organizations
taking the biggest hit. After years of deficit the ballet is
performing this year's Nutcracker without a live orchestra for the
first time and the philharmonic is considering merging with the
opera to stay afloat. Read the NPR story about Dayton,
Ohio's opera, philharmonic, and ballet succesfully
merging to solve budget problems.
Frankie the Dog Frankie is a dog whose story
shows how a terrible act by one person can summon the good will of
many. The little terrier mix was tied to a tree near
Foresthill with a broken jaw and broken paw -left for dead.
Fortunately a camper found Frankie after days of searching and took
him to Dr. Juricek at the Pinole Pet Hospital, who saved Frankie's
life. The Placer County Sheriff's Department is currently
searching for Frankie's abuser(s). We first
spoke about Frankie (also known as Butch) during Insight's News
Network Tuesday, October 2 and UC Davis veterinarians are currently
reconstructing his face. To donate to Frankie's recovery fund
