State of the Union - President Barack Obama's 2013 State of the Union address comes at a time
when gun control, immigration reform and federal spending limits
are center stage. Capital Public Radio National News Reporter Matt
Laslo was there and he joins us with a recap of the event. Plus,
we'll get reaction to the President's address from two
Sacramento-area lawmakers. Democratic Congressman
Ami Bera represents California's 7th District, centered in
eastern Sacramento County, and Republican Congressman Tom McClintock, who represents
California's 4th District, covering parts of the Central Valley and
the Sierra Nevada.
Kushman By the Bottle - Capital Public
Radio's resident wine expert (and occasional guest host) Rick Kushman
joins us for a special Valentine's Day installment of Kushman by
the Bottle. He offers advice on choosing the best wines to pair
with your romantic dinner, even if that means bringing a bottle to
the restaurant. As always, you can expect to hear Rick's wine
recommendations as well.
"Kind of Blue" - Sacramento jazz drummer Tim
Metz loves Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" and started thinking about a
concert where all of the album's songs would be played in order. He
decided to run with the idea and recruited some of the best
musicians he could hope to play with. Joe Gilman, Mike McMullen,
Tom Peron, David O'Keefe and the great Jeff Clayton answered the
call and the supergroup will take on "Kind of Blue" at JB's Lounge as part of the
Sunday Night Jazz Series. We'll talk with Metz about his love "Kind
of Blue" and also with Vivian Lee, a jazz artist who coordinates
the weekly jazz series.
"Kind of Blue" will be performed at 5 and 6:45 p.m. Sunday,
Feb. 17 at JB's Lounge, 1401 Arden Way, Sacramento.
