7:50 p.m. - Containment At 92 Percent

Fire officials report that containment of the King Fire has reached 92 percent, with a very low chance that the fire will spread. Total area burned remains 97,099 acres, with 80 structures lost, including 12 residences.

Crews are in mop-up operations in both zones of the fire, with debris being removed from roads to make them safe for public travel again. Some of the crews are still battling flames in the fire's interior, unburned "islands," according to an InciWeb report.

6:15 a.m.

The U.S. Forest Service says the fire is 89 percent contained, and the number of firefighters working against the flames is down by nearly half, to about 4,400.

The King Fire has burned more than 97,000 acres. It has destroyed about a dozen homes and 70 other structures near Pollock Pines in El Dorado County, and has cost more than $53 million to fight.

The USFS says heat remains in some areas sheltered from the rain under the dense timber canopy  - and the weather is expected to warm up over the next few days - but the potential for the fire to spread again is extremely low.
