California's water year ends Tuesday as one of the driest in state history -- and water managers are warning the new water year may be just as bad.
The 2014 water year is on record as one of the driest in California’s history.
State reservoirs are storing only a third of their capacity. After three years of drought, vast tracts of farmland lie fallow and some communities are scrambling for drinking water. The Department of Water Resources could only deliver five percent of what was requested from the State Water Project, a record low.
The federal Central Valley Project reduced deliveries down to zero for some. Water managers says if a predicted El Nino weather pattern arrives, it may not bring the storms needed to replenish the state’s reservoirs.
