Wragg Fire Friday Update: Lighter Winds, Cooler Temperatures Aid Crews In Battle Against Wragg Fire

10:55 p.m. - Fire officials say evacuations have been lifted in the Golden Bear Estates area, and for residents on County Rd. 87, as of 6:00 p.m. Quail Ridge Residents and the Canyon Creek Area remain under mandatory evacuations.

There are 41 crews, including 1,371 personnel, working the incident.

Firefighting personnel continue to aggressively work in treacherous terrain, providing structure defense and improving containment lines. The terrain is brush covered, rugged and steep, with difficult access.

3:15 p.m. - Cal Fire says the Wragg Fire near Lake Berryessa off Highway 128 in Napa and Solano counties has grown to 6,900 acres. It is 15 percent contained. 

Quail Canyon and Golden Bear Communities remain under mandatory evacuations. Two area campgrounds have been evacuated.

More than 1,300 firefighters are working to protect homes and improve containment lines. Cal Fire says 200 structures are threatened in the Quail Ridge Community.

One outbuilding and a tent trailer has been destroyed and Highway 128 at Wragg Canyon is closed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

An evacuation center is at Winters Community Center and there is an area for large animals at 29775 County road in Winters.

1 p.m. - The Wragg Fire has grown to 6,710 acres, with containment still at 5 percent. Total personnel assigned to the fire has also grown to 1,300 as of early Thursday afternoon.

Cal Fire officials say the agencies fighting the wildfire include Napa County Fire, Winters FPD, Vacaville FPD, Vacaville City Fire, Napa County Sheriff, Solano County Sheriff, Yolo County Sheriff, CHP, Red Cross, Napa County Roads, BLM, Bureau of Reclamation, North Bay Incident Management Team and CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 6.

The fire started Wednesday afternoon. Original reports were the blaze was the result of a vehicle accident, but officials say the cause is still being investigated.

8 a.m.: Cal Fire says one outbuilding and tent trailer has been destroyed and one structure damaged by the Wragg Fire burning near Lake Berryessa in Solano and Napa counties.

"There are still about 200 structures that are threatened in the Quail Ridge community and Golden Bear," says Karen Stasko with Cal Fire. "I didn't think there were any homes in that area because when you drive by it you don't see that much."

Two campgrounds have also been evacuated. The fire erupted Wednesday and was initially reported as being caused by a vehicle accident, but authorities now say the cause remains under investigation.

More than 520 firefighters are battling the flames in terrain that has been difficult to access. The Red Cross has opened an evacuation center at the Winters Community Center. An animal evacuation center has also been opened nearby. Highway 128 is closed at Wragg Canyon.

7 a.m.: The fast-moving Wragg Fire burning near Lake Berryessa in Napa and Solano counties has grown to 6,000 acres and has damaged one residential structure and destroyed one outbuilding.

About 200 other structures are threatened and evacuations are still in place in the Quail Ridge and Golden Bear communities. 

"The area this fire is located is really rough. It's high and it's very rugged," says Karen Stasko, who is with Cal Fire. 

The Red Cross has opened an evacuation center in the town of Winters. The fire erupted yesterday [Wednesday] and is under investigation. It was initially reported as being caused by a vehicle accident. The fire is 5 percent contained.

6:46 a.m. - (AP) - A fast-moving wildfire in Napa and Solano counties grew to about 6,000 acres overnight, scorching drought-parched countryside near Lake Berryessa.

The fire is 5 percent contained Thursday morning and is threatening some 200 structures. The communities of Quail Ridge and Golden Bear are under evacuation orders. Two campgrounds have also been evacuated.

The fire erupted Wednesday and was initially reported as being caused by a vehicle accident, but authorities now say the cause remains under investigation.

 6:20 a.m. - The Wragg Fire has grown overnight to about 6,000 acres and continues to threaten about 200 structures. 

Multiple media organizations are also reporting that at least one residence has been partially damaged and one outbuilding burned. 

The fire is 5 percent contained.

The fire erupted Wednesday and was initially reported as being caused by a vehicle accident, but authorities now say the cause remains under investigation.
