8 a.m. Crews have contained a vegetation fire burning along the American Parkway just east of Discovery Park Tuesday morning.

Chris Harvey with the Sacramento Fire Department says the fire has been contained at about 2 acres. Crews are expected to continue mop-up work throughout the morning.

The fire was reported shortly after 6 a.m. as a grass fire. By the time crews arrived in the area, flames had gotten into trees and heavy vegetation.

Harvey says firefighters were having some difficulties extinguishing the fire once it got into the trees and limbs started falling. Crews are currently lighting a backfire to stop the blaze from spreading north.

No structures were threatened and no injuries have been reported.
