Sacramento Area Water Conservation Rate 27 Percent In October

The Sacramento Regional Water Authority says Sacramento-area water users conserved 27 percent in October compared to the same month in 2013. 　

The Regional Water Authority represents water providers in Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, Yolo and Sutter counties. 

The conservation rate for about two million customers comes from a review of October water use data. 

It's the second straight month the conservation rate was 27 percent. 

The RWA and other agencies urge customers to turn off outdoor sprinklers and increase focus on indoor water conservation. 

They also recommend limiting shower time, checking plumbing and appliances for leaks and investing in high-efficiency appliances.

Climatologists say even if El Niño brings above-average rain to the state, it will take several years of above-average precipitation to erase California's water supply deficit. 

The 25 percent state conservation mandate from the California Water Resources Control Board is in effect through the end of February 2016. 

But that could be extended if the water supply deficit doesn't improve through the winter.
