More than 83,000 new customers have signed up for healthcare during Covered California’s open enrollment period. And another wave of sign-ups is expected this week. If you want health coverage by the first of the year you must sign up by December 15.
Covered California Executive Director Peter Lee says the numbers are trending in the right direction. He says between 260,000 and nearly 500,000 people are expected to sign up for coverage during the annual enrollment period.
"The forecast is actually through January 31st, for the entire open enrollment period," he says. "So at 83,000 before we’ve started really in the surge of this last week, we’re feeling very optimistic.""
Lee says more than 60,000 people have also signed up for dental insurance, a new benefit this year.
