The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit says the Heavenly Mountain Resort improvement projects include construction of a 300-square-foot permanent ticket sales kiosk near Tamarack Lodge, relocating the Red Fir handle tow lift, and removing trees and widening part of the Tamarack Return Trail.

"These developments that Heavenly is proposing are in line with their original Master Development Plan," says Lisa Herron, with the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. "But all of these improvements are something that we consider, the Forest Service considers pretty minor, although some trees will be removed for certain activities that they plan."

Herron says some trees would also be removed and others "limbed" under the Blue Streak Zipline to make installing and removing the line easier.

She says public comments on the Heavenly improvements should be received by December 21.

"Comments are most constructive if they include information like 'we don't like this because of' and then give a reason, or, 'we do like this because of,'" says Herron. "I mean it's not just a matter of saying 'we don't like this' or 'we don't want you to take out any trees.'"

Herron says barring any changes to the proposal, the improvement work could start in Spring 2016.
