California Secretary of State Alex Padilla has provided a list of advice for voters as they head to their nearby polling places and perform their civic duty.
Drop Off Your Vote-by-Mail Ballot In Person
If you registered as a mail-in voter and haven’t actually mailed in, you can drop off your ballot at any polling place in your county on Election Day.
Plan How To Get To Your Polling Place
Make sure you know your polling place (you can find that information here). Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. on Nov. 8. If you’re in line at 8 p.m. as the polls are about to close, you’ll still be allowed to vote.
Respect The Polling Place
In California, it is illegal to interfere with others’ right to vote. People are also discouraged from campaigning for votes, wearing campaign materials, coerceing, influenceing or interfering with any voter within 100 feet of the polling place.
Know What And Who You Are Voting For
Educate yourself about the issues and candidates. You can use the new “Quick Guide to Props” from the Secretary of State’s office to understand in details about the 17 statewide propositions in this year’s ballot.

To make it easier for voters, the Secretary of State’s office launched the free “Vote California” smartphone app, where people can check their voter status, find their polling location and quickly read through the guide to the propositions.
Taking A Ballot 'Selfie' Is Not Allowed
Ballot Selfies are still not allowed under state law. Earlier this year, Gov. Jerry Brown signed a law that would allow it. However, that law doesn't kick in until Jan. 1, 2017.
