Sacramento Hepatitis A Case Originated At Haggin Oaks Golf Course

An employee of MacKenzie’s Sports Bar and Grille at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex has come down with a case of Hepatitis A, according to the Sacramento County Department of Health and Human Services.

The disease spreads when food, drink, or other shared objects get contaminated by an infected person's feces. In San Diego, Santa Cruz and Los Angeles, the liver infection has been spreading quickly among urban homeless communities.

Officials don't think it's tied to the other outbreak, which originated in San Diego and has killed 17 people.

Sacramento County DHHS asks anyone who ate at MacKenzie's between Sept. 12-22 to call their health care provider and get the Hepatitis A vaccine. Anyone who has previously received the vaccine does not need to get it again.

Anyone having trouble accessing the vaccine should contact Sacramento County Public Health at 916-875-5881.

Correction: This story previously misstated that the case was not confirmed. It has been confirmed.
